Project Snapshot

Ouarzazate (pronounced, Warzazat), the Moroccan City nicknamed “The door of the desert” is the home of the largest solar plant in the world. The 580MW project is being constructed in three phases through a public private partnership build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) structure between the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (Masen) and ACWA Power Ouarzazate, a consortium of ACWA Power, Aries and TSK.

a. The cost of the project is 2.105 billion Euros. Funding was raised through the African Development Bank, the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund (part of Climate Investment Funds), the European Investment Bank, KfW Development Bank, the French Development Agency, MASEN (Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy) and private operators. It has also benefited from a significant grant (donation) from the European Union.
